Getting started with WordPress is easy, it’s still important to know what you do and how to do it, so you don’t waste time.
That’s why we’ve created this guide.
We will show you every step you need to do to start a blog with a self-hosted blog. We do this with tons of screenshots and instructions for beginners.
How to create a blog: What do you want
Quick note. This guide is not about using WordPress.com. Instead, we’ll show you how to start your own blog with self-hosted WordPress so you have full control over it. This is our recommended procedure.
If you want to create a blog, here is a simple step-by-step guide:
- Sign up for web hosting (we recommend Bluehost).
- Select a hosting plan.
- Select a domain name for your blog.
- Complete your hosting registration.
- Install WordPress.
- Log in and write your first blog post.
- None of these steps require in-depth technology and we will show you the whole process of how to set up a blog.
Once your blog is up and running, you start writing and changing its appearance and functionality. To help you do this, we’ll show you how to do it:
- Write your first blog post using the WordPress editor
- Change how your WordPress blog looks with “Blog”
- Add functionality to your blog using the tools called “plugins”
- As long as you know how to use sites like Facebook and have total confidence in “web stuff”, you can follow this guide. We promise!
Step 1: Hosting and buying your domain name
To make your blog accessible to people around the world, you need two things:
Hosting –This is the engine that powers your site. If you “don’t see”, every website on the Internet has privileges.
Domain – This is the default address of your blog. For example, ours is trending.tech. If you need help getting a good reputation, check out this post.
You can buy your hosting and domain at the same time – so don’t worry too much about annoying details right now. Before you do this, you need to select a WordPress host. Due to the popularity of WordPress, there are many WordPress hosts.
We have personally tested the performance and reliability of these hosts. After that check, we recommend Bluehost to new bloggers.
- It’s affordable. You can host your site every month for a small lot of price – only 2.95 per month for your first 12 months.
- When you sign up, you get a domain name. It’s affordable – it costs $ 10 + for your own domain.
- You can easily install WordPress. With just a few clicks, you can launch a blog software and get a running blog. No technology required!
- It has enough performance to get you started. When you start, Bluehost provides a lot of functionality to load your site.
- You are going to host your blog on Bluehost throughout the year, including your domain name. 35.40 will cost.
If you want to create a WordPress blog it is cheaper than getting it.
For beginners, we recommend a cheap basic plan because it will give your new blog more power. Click the SELECT button to start the process:
Next, you will need to buy a domain, enter the domain name you want to use for your blog in the new domain box and click Next. Remember – you get this for free:
You don’t have an idea which domain is suitable for you don’t worry just check out here How to get a perfect domain name for your website
You’ll need to enter basic account and billing details at the top:
As you scroll down, you’ll see the Package Information section at the bottom. Here, you can choose how many years of hosting service to buy and any add-ons you need. When Bluehost checks some of these add-ons by default, you can safely select them
Step 2: Install WordPress native WordPress software
If you want to create a WordPress blog, you need to install WordPress software, which is great.
We know this sounds a little intimidating – but we think you might be surprised at how easy it is to install a blog.

Go ahead and log into Bluehost.
As soon as you log in for the first time, Bluehost provides a simple wizard that takes you through the process of installing the blog on your new site.
No Setup Wizard? Don’t worry, installing a blog with Bluehost is still very easy. To start the Wizard, go to My Sites area and click the Create Site button:
Then, you’ll be able to fill in all the important details for your site’s name and the username/password that you’ll use to manage your WordPress blog:
